Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 2026
1. Who we are
Probitec (Pty) Ltd ("we", "us", "our") is the responsible party for the personal information described in this policy. We are committed to protecting your personal information in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA). This policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and the rights you have.
Registered address: Unit 106B, Buchanan Square, 160 Sir Lowry Road, Woodstock, Cape Town, 7925. You can reach us at support@probitec.co.za.
2. Information we collect
Depending on how you use our site, we may collect:
- Account & contact details — name, email address, phone number, and password (stored in hashed form).
- Order & delivery details — delivery address, order history, and subscription details.
- Payment information — processed directly by our payment provider. We do not store your full card details on our servers.
- Quiz & preference data — the answers you give to tools such as the Fibre Gap Calculator, and the products you choose.
- Reviews & feedback — content you submit if you choose to leave feedback or a testimonial.
- Technical & usage data — device, browser, IP address, and how you interact with the site, collected via cookies and analytics (see section 7).
We do not knowingly collect special personal information or clinical health records. Product selections and quiz answers reflect your preferences, not a medical diagnosis.
3. Why we process it (lawful basis)
We process your information on one or more of the POPIA-recognised grounds:
- To perform our contract with you — processing and delivering orders, managing subscriptions, and sending order confirmations and shipping updates.
- With your consent — sending marketing communications, and setting analytics and advertising cookies.
- Our legitimate interests — securing the site, preventing fraud and abuse, and improving our products and services.
- Legal obligation — keeping records required by tax and consumer-protection law.
You can withdraw consent for marketing or non-essential cookies at any time (see sections 7 and 8).
4. Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with operators (service providers) who process it on our behalf, under contract, and only as needed to run the service:
- Paystack — payment processing (South Africa).
- Supabase — account, order, and database hosting.
- Vercel — website hosting and delivery.
- Sanity — product and content management.
- Resend — transactional email (order and shipping notifications).
- Mailchimp — marketing email, where you have opted in.
- Senja — collecting and moderating reviews and testimonials you choose to submit.
- Google (Analytics & Maps), Meta, and TikTok — website analytics, address lookup, and advertising measurement, subject to your cookie consent. Where used for advertising measurement, your email may be shared in hashed (non-readable) form.
We may also disclose information where required by law, or to protect our rights, safety, or property.
5. Cross-border transfers
Some of our operators listed above store or process data on servers outside South Africa (for example in the European Union or the United States). Where personal information is transferred across borders, we take reasonable steps to ensure it is protected by a comparable level of protection, through the operator's contractual data-processing terms and security commitments, as required by section 72 of POPIA.
6. How long we keep it
We keep personal information only for as long as necessary for the purpose it was collected, or as required by law:
- Order and transaction records — retained for the period required by South African tax and consumer-protection law (generally at least five years).
- Account information — for as long as your account remains active. You may request deletion at any time (see section 9).
- Marketing contact details — until you unsubscribe or withdraw consent.
- Analytics data — for a limited retention window set within each analytics tool.
7. Cookies & analytics
We use essential cookies to make the site work (for example, to keep you signed in and to remember your cart). With your consent, we also use analytics and advertising cookies to understand how the site is used and to measure the effectiveness of our marketing. You can accept or decline non-essential cookies through our cookie banner, and change your choice at any time via your browser settings. Declining non-essential cookies does not affect your ability to shop.
8. Marketing
We only send marketing communications where you have opted in. Every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can withdraw consent at any time by unsubscribing or by contacting us. Withdrawing marketing consent does not affect transactional messages about orders you have placed.
9. Your rights under POPIA
You have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information
- Request deletion or destruction of your personal information
- Object to the processing of your information
- Withdraw consent for marketing communications at any time
- Lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@probitec.co.za. We will respond within a reasonable period.
10. Data security
We implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your personal information against loss, unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. These include encryption in transit, restricted access to systems, and using reputable operators with their own security safeguards. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your information and to notify you and the Information Regulator of any breach that is reasonably likely to cause you harm.
11. Children
Our site and products are intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect the personal information of children without the consent of a parent or guardian. If you believe we have done so, please contact us and we will delete it.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The “last updated” date above reflects the most recent version. Material changes will be communicated where appropriate.
